Pocket Hoarder resembles a Polly Pocket (an iconic and nostalgic toy beloved for its pastel hues and portability) with a twist: it portrays a hoarded house. Drawing from personal experiences, Kelly explores themes of childhood escapism and reclaiming control. Children often use house-like toys as a means of processing difficult situations through imaginative play. By creating their own stories and scenarios, children can temporarily detach from real-life stresses and experience a sense of empowerment. This work shows the dichotomy of pretend play and the reality of hoarding through the eyes of a child.
